Jack Eichel Signs Eight-Year, $108 Million Extension with Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel signed an eight-year, $108 million contract extension with the team yesterday, securing his future with the franchise and removing the possibility of him becoming an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The deal, which carries an average annual value of $13.5 million and begins with the 2026-27 season, comes as Eichel is entering the final year of his current eight-year, $80 million contract originally signed with the Buffalo Sabres in 2017. The 28-year-old led the Golden Knights with a career-high 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 77 games last season, finishing eighth in the NHL in scoring. Eichel has quickly become a cornerstone of the Golden Knights offense since arriving in a trade with Buffalo in November 2021; you can review details of that trade here.
“There’s definitely some peace of mind that comes with getting something done,” Eichel said. “I said all along I wanted to be here, playing for the Vegas Golden Knights, so really happy to get it done, so happy to continue my career here in Vegas. It’s been an incredible place for me, my family. Just very thankful and grateful.” Eichel was instrumental in the Golden Knights’ 2023 Stanley Cup victory, leading all playoff performers with 26 points in 22 games. The team’s continued success hinges on retaining key players like Eichel as they navigate a competitive Western Conference.
The Golden Knights have also recently added forward Mitch Marner via a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, signaling a continued commitment to contending for championships. “It’s an organization that wants to win the Stanley Cup every year, and as a player, that’s all you can ask for,” Eichel stated. The team finished first in the Pacific Division last season before falling to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Second Round. Team officials stated they are confident this extension solidifies the Golden Knights’ position as a top contender in the NHL for years to come.
