Zoo Boo and Spooky Seas Events Planned for Sioux Falls

The Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls will host its annual Halloween-themed events, Zoo Boo and Spooky Seas, throughout October, offering family-friendly activities and entertainment.

Zoo Boo will take place on Friday, October 17, and all day Saturday, October 18, featuring trick-or-treat stations, a DJ in the Plaza, and appearances by the Sioux Empire Ghostbusters. New this year, the Zoo is offering VIP early access on Friday from 5 to 6 PM for an additional $5, and a Saturday night fire show. A Sensory Hour, sponsored by Empower U, will be held Saturday morning from 10 to 11 AM to provide a quieter experience for families who need it. Attendees ages 2-12 will receive a free glow stick and treat bag. These events draw significant crowds, boosting local tourism and providing a popular community tradition.

The fun continues at the Butterfly House and Aquarium on Saturday, October 25, with Spooky Seas, including a Haunted Photo Scavenger Hunt, a visit with the Little Mermaid, and exploration of a Haunted Shipwreck in the Discover Den. Free treat bags will be available while supplies last. For more information on event details and ticket prices, visit the Great Plains Zoo website. Families can also learn about conservation efforts at the zoo, which are vital for endangered species like the snow leopard.

Visitors to the Great Plains Zoo can also view the snow leopard cub and her mother, Denali, in their outdoor exhibit, with the father, Strut, having alternate-day access, mirroring natural snow leopard behavior. The zoo is also encouraging the public to participate in naming the new cub, a process that helps build community engagement with wildlife conservation. You can find more information about snow leopard conservation at the World Wildlife Fund.

Officials stated that they are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable Halloween season for all attendees.
