The 2025 Formula 1 World Championship culminates Sunday in Abu Dhabi, with the drivers’ title still up for grabs in a dramatic three-way fight. Lando Norris enters the final race with a narrow points lead, but a resurgent Max Verstappen – fresh off qualifying victory Saturday – remains a serious threat to secure his fifth consecutive championship. The season finale at Yas Marina Circuit promises a gripping showdown as the contenders battle for motorsport’s ultimate prize.
The Formula 1 World Championship is heading to a dramatic finale in Abu Dhabi on December 7, with three drivers still in contention for the title. This close race underscores the intense competition and precision required in motorsports, a field where even slight advantages can determine success.
Lando Norris of McLaren remains the favorite heading into the final race, holding a 12-point lead in the drivers’ standings. A podium finish – any position within the top three – would secure his first World Championship title, regardless of his competitors’ results. He will start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from second position on the grid.
However, Max Verstappen of Red Bull is also within striking distance. Despite trailing leader Piastri by 104 points after the August race in the Netherlands, Verstappen has mounted a remarkable comeback. He has won five races since then and finished on the podium in the remaining three, putting him in contention to equal Michael Schumacher’s record for consecutive titles.
Starting from pole position, Verstappen will need a strong performance to overcome the points deficit and secure his fifth consecutive championship.
Formula 1 2025
The 2025 Formula 1 season began on March 16 with the Australian Grand Prix and will conclude on December 7 in Abu Dhabi. Max Verstappen of Red Bull is the defending champion in the drivers’ standings, while McLaren represents the current titleholder among the teams.
Oscar Piastri, also driving for McLaren, will start in third position. While he led the drivers’ standings for much of the year, a crash in Azerbaijan in September was followed by four races without a podium finish. A disqualification in Las Vegas and a second-place finish in Qatar have left him 16 points behind Norris. Piastri needs to finish second or better in Abu Dhabi to have a chance at the championship.
With all three contenders closely matched and starting near the front of the grid, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is expected to be a thrilling and unpredictable race. The championship will not be decided until the final lap, promising a dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Formula 1 season.
