Facebook is undergoing a notable redesign,mirroring features popularized by its sister platform,Instagram.The changes, announced today by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, focus on visual presentation and user experience, reflecting a continued effort to compete in a rapidly evolving social media landscape and bolster engagement on the platform. Meta is rolling out a series of updates designed to streamline the Facebook experience and empower users to create content more easily, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues his push to make Facebook “more culturally impactful” than it is today.

The changes aim to bring the Facebook feed closer in feel to Instagram, particularly in how photos are displayed and interacted with. When users now share multiple photos at once, they will appear in a grid layout, and double-tapping a photo will register a “like.” This shift reflects a broader trend of visual-first social media experiences.

Meta is also redesigning the process for creating Stories and posts, placing frequently used tools like adding music and tagging friends in more accessible locations. Search results will now present content in a more immersive, grid-based layout that supports all content types, and the company is testing a full-screen photo and video viewing experience that maintains context within the search results.

Users will also have increased visibility into why certain content appears in their feed, with Meta adding functionality to explain the relevance – or lack thereof – of posts. Building on recent adjustments to content personalization on Instagram and Threads, Meta has committed to “introducing new ways for you to shape your feed and provide feedback on your algorithm” in the coming months.

Additional updates include a refreshed menu design and a simplified commenting experience. Meta says these changes are “just the beginning” of efforts to declutter and improve the usability of Facebook, with further updates planned for next year.
