Food Bank of Delaware Launches Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Food Bank of Delaware began its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive today, aiming to provide a holiday meal for families in need across the state.
The drive, running through November 15, encourages community members to donate nonperishable food items or contribute financially. Donations received after the deadline will still be distributed during the holiday season. With rising inflation impacting household budgets, food insecurity is a growing concern for many Delaware families.
According to Cathy Kanefsky, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware, “As the cost of living continues to rise, more Delawareans are turning to the Food Bank of Delaware and its network of community food pantries for help putting food on the table.” Requested donations include canned vegetables and fruits, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, and frozen turkeys, with turkeys accepted only at the Newark warehouse located at 222 Lake Drive or the Milford location at 102 Delaware Veterans Blvd. You can find a list of needed items and donation locations on the Food Bank of Delaware website.
Kanefsky added, “Our community shows up every year to make sure no Delawarean is forgotten during the holidays. It’s that spirit of generosity and compassion that truly embodies what Thanksgiving is all about.” Food banks across the nation are reporting increased demand for services, according to Feeding America.
Officials say the Food Bank will continue accepting and distributing donations throughout the holiday season to ensure all Delaware families have access to a Thanksgiving meal.
