Hamas has insisted that any discussions regarding the future of Gaza must begin with a complete conclude to Israeli “aggression.” The statement came after the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace” established by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Any political process or any arrangements discussed regarding the Gaza Strip and the future of our Palestinian people must begin with a complete cessation of aggression, the lifting of the blockade, and a guarantee of the legitimate national rights of our people, foremost of which is their right to freedom and self-determination,” Hamas said in a statement, as reported by the AFP news agency, Friday, February 20, 2026.
The Board of Peace held its first meeting in Washington on Thursday, February 19, 2026, with several nations pledging funds and personnel for the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by conflict.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintained that Hamas must disarm before Gaza’s reconstruction can begin.
“We agreed with our allies in the U.S. That there will be no reconstruction of Gaza before the demilitarization of Gaza,” Netanyahu said.
The Israeli leader did not attend the Washington meeting but was represented by his foreign minister, Gideon Saar.
Trump stated that several countries, primarily from the Gulf region, have pledged more than $7 billion USD to rebuild the Palestinian territory.
Indonesia will send troops to Gaza and serve as deputy commander within the newly formed International Stabilization Force (ISF).
The chief of the Indonesian Army’s Information Center, Brigadier General Donny Pramono, stated that Indonesia is prepared to deploy up to 1,000 soldiers to Gaza in April, with the potential for that number to increase to 8,000 by the end of June.
Indonesia is the first nation to publicly express its willingness to contribute troops. If realized, this would represent one of the largest contributions to a peacekeeping mission globally, though the deployment still awaits final approval from President Prabowo.
In addition to Indonesia, Trump said that Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania have committed to providing troops.
