George Clooney is mourning the loss of his sister, Adelia “Ada” Zeidler, who passed away on December 19th at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer. The news comes as a deeply personal blow for the actor, who described his sister as his hero.

“My sister, Ada, was my hero,” Clooney said in a statement. “She faced cancer with courage and humor. I’ve never met anyone so brave.” He and his wife, Amal Clooney, will miss her dearly, he added.

Zeidler died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, Kentucky, according to her obituary. She was born in Los Angeles on May 2, 1960, just over a year before her brother.

A talented artist, Zeidler spent several years as an art teacher at an elementary school in her hometown of Augusta, Kentucky. Later, she pursued studies in Louisville and Northern Kentucky, eventually working as an accountant.

While she largely stayed out of the public eye, Zeidler attended Clooney’s wedding to Amal Clooney in Venice in 2014. The event was a high-profile affair, drawing international attention to the couple.

Zeidler was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Zeidler, who died of a heart attack in 2004. She is survived by her two children, Nick Zeidler and Allison Zeidler Herolaga, as well as her parents, brother George Clooney, and other family members.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22nd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Knoedler Memorial Library in Augusta.
