A man fired a starting pistol inside the Kharkiv metro system on Sunday evening, according to police reports. The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. On April 26, 2026, at the “Historical Museum” station in the city center.

Police spokesperson Lyudmila Prokopenko confirmed that an intoxicated civilian discharged the weapon upward inside the metro carriage. No injuries were reported as a result of the discharge.

Authorities detained the individual at the scene and confiscated the starting pistol. Investigators are currently gathering evidence related to the incident, which remains under active investigation.

The event adds to a series of similar occurrences across Ukraine in recent weeks, including reports of individuals firing starting pistols in public areas in Khmelnytskyi and Chernihiv, though those incidents resulted in no casualties either.

Police have emphasized that while the device used was not a lethal firearm, discharging any weapon in a public transit setting poses significant safety risks and violates public order laws.
