Norwegian Handball Team Faced Unexpected Hotel Change Ahead of Semifinal
Netherlands vs. Norway – Friday at 8:45 PM
ROTTERDAM (headlinez.news) – The Norwegian women’s handball team arrived in the Rotterdam area to find their accommodations had been unexpectedly changed, just hours before a crucial semifinal matchup.
Originally slated to stay at a luxurious hotel in Schiedam, alongside the Dutch and French teams, the Norwegians were informed during their bus transfer from Dortmund that they would be relocated to a different hotel. The initial hotel boasted spacious common areas and a modern wellness center, designed to accommodate large groups like national teams. The Dutch team highlighted the “luxury” of their facilities during a press conference Thursday.
The Norwegian team was ultimately placed in a four-star hotel, though it offers smaller rooms and fewer amenities.
“The organizers had two hotels in Rotterdam planned for the final weekend. Once the quarterfinal matches were completed and the teams advancing were known, we were placed at one of them,” explained Siv Sødal, the Norwegian team leader, in a statement. “We were originally scheduled for Schiedam, but that was changed.”
Norway has now checked into the hotel previously occupied by Denmark before their quarterfinal exit. Sødal was asked if the team had concerns about being moved to a hotel with fewer amenities and a lower price point.
“We know that changes can occur, so we choose not to spend energy on it. We are doing well here at this hotel for further preparation and focus on the next match,” she added.

There was little sign of discontent among the team during Thursday’s press conference ahead of their semifinal match against the Netherlands.
“I don’t keep track of this. I got here, got a room, and went in. I understand it changed along the way,” laughed Nora Mørk.
“It doesn’t matter,” said head coach Ole Gustav Gjekstad.
The International Handball Federation (IHF) has not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the hotel change.
