Paraná Confirms Hantavirus Cases; Health Authorities Heighten Surveillance
Health officials in the Brazilian state of Paraná have confirmed two cases of hantavirus, while an additional 11 suspected cases remain under investigation. The confirmations come as the region intensifies its public health monitoring to prevent further spread of the rodent-borne illness.
The increase in vigilance follows an international alert issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), which prompted local authorities to sharpen their response. In response to the situation, the Paraná Health Secretariat has announced that it is maintaining rigorous surveillance to track and contain the virus within the state.
Hantavirus is a zoonotic disease, meaning it spreads from animals to humans.
