The body of a missing police officer was discovered Friday in a ravine near Huaraz, Peru, six days after she was last seen, authorities confirmed.
Luego de seis días de incertidumbre, las autoridades confirmaron el hallazgo del cuerpo sin vida de la suboficial PNP de segunda Marleni Martha Rucana Silvestre (27), desaparecida el pasado sábado 21 de febrero en Huaraz.
El cadáver fue localizado este viernes en un barranco de difícil acceso en el sector de Paltay, tras la confesión del principal sospechoso, el también efectivo policial José Enrique Villafán Arteaga, de 52 años.

La diligencia de levantamiento del cadáver fue dirigida por el fiscal William Loayza, con el apoyo de peritos de Medicina Legal y rescatistas de la Policía Nacional, que utilizaron cuerdas y arneses para descender hasta el lugar donde el victimario dejó los restos.
Villafán Arteaga, who is also a lawyer, decided to reveal the location of the body after a judge ordered nine months of preventative detention against him on suspicion of kidnapping.

The 27-year-old sub-lieutenant Rucana was last seen on February 21, when security cameras captured her entering the red truck of Villafán after finishing her workday at the Department of Environment in Taricá.
The transfer of the detainee to the crime scene sparked protests from family and residents demanding justice. During the operation, a relative of the officer became ill and required medical attention.

Magistrate Pedro Flores Alberto, of the First Preparatory Investigation Court of Huaraz, confirmed that the accused will be held at the Víctor Pérez Liendo penitentiary.
Meanwhile, the Public Ministry continues to investigate the motive for the killing and rule out the involvement of others, following suspicions about the detainee’s family environment.
