Iranian Drone Strikes Hit Kurdish Targets in Northern Iraq; One Fatality Confirmed
A series of drone attacks launched by the Iranian regime have targeted various Kurdish groups and bases across Northern Iraq, resulting in casualties and heightening regional instability. The strikes, which hit positions in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, underscore the persistent volatility and the complex security landscape of the Kurdistan Region.
Reports indicate that the aerial assaults targeted the bases of the PDK-Î and Zahmetkeşan, as well as a camp belonging to a Kurdish group opposed to the Iranian regime. In the city of Sulaymaniyah, a member of the Komala Peshmerga, who had been wounded in a previous drone strike, has since passed away. Additional reports from the region confirm that at least three people were injured across the drone strikes in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
The escalation comes amid a broader context of regional friction, where the Kurdistan Region often becomes a flashpoint for external conflicts. In response to the situation, the Ministry of Interior has stated that the Kurdistan Region is not a part of the ongoing war.
