Latvian audiences will soon have a new soundtrack for the holiday season with the release of “Krīt pārslas, krīt” (Falling Snowflakes), a collaborative song by composer Jānis Lūsēns and lyricist Vilnis Plūdons. The track, featuring opera singer Brigita reisone and actor Raimonds Celms, will be central to their upcoming concert series, “Brīdi pirms gaismiņas” (A moment Before the Light), scheduled across Latvia throughout December. The program builds on the success of a previous concert cycle and aims to showcase a new generation of Latvian musical talent.

Just in time for the holidays, a new song by Jānis Lūsēns, set to lyrics by Vilnis Plūdons, “Krīt pārslas, krīt” (Falling Snowflakes), has been released. The track features the newly formed duo of opera singer Brigita Reisone and Latvian National Theatre actor Raimonds Celms, and will be performed as part of their joint Christmas concert program, “Brīdi pirms gaismiņas” (A Moment Before the Light).

In a way, this program is a continuation of the concert cycle “Mazu brīdi pirms” (A Little Moment Before), which was created years ago and featured singers Kristīne Zadovska and Ingus Pētersons. The program was a great success, with over a hundred concerts performed.
But, as Jānis Lūsēns says, time has passed, and now it’s the younger generation’s turn. He previously worked with Raimonds Celms on a revival of the rock opera “Kaupēn, mans mīļais,” and emphasizes that Raimonds has a masculine vocal timbre, and is currently honing his vocal skills at the Latvian Academy of Music. The composer’s idea was to create a duet where the vocal timbres and sound complement each other well, and he says that the new, talented opera singer Brigita Reisone, with her bright, academic soprano and feminine stage charm, seemed perfectly suited for the role.
“The newly created song reflects not so much the vocal mastery of both soloists, as their inner intelligence, sensitivity and warmth, which is so much needed at a time when we are preparing for the quietest days of the year; holidays in which we remember the most beautiful dreams and events of the year. Those that will remain in our memories forever,” adds Jānis Lūsēns.
The concerts “Brīdi pirms gaismiņas” will feature: opera singer Brigita Reisone (soprano), actor Raimonds Celms (tenor), Jānis Lūsēns sen. (keyboards), Evija Mundeciema (flute, bells), Jānis Lūsēns jun. (bass guitar, guitar) and Uģis Upenieks (percussion).
