Jefferson, Iowa City Services Closed for Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Several city services in Jefferson, Iowa will be closed on Monday, October 13th, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Jefferson City Hall, the Jefferson Public Library, and the Jefferson Post Office will all be closed to the public. Library staff confirmed that no items are due on days the library is officially closed for a holiday. Residents are reminded that garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day; Monday’s routes will be completed on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, and Wednesday’s on Thursday.

Normal garbage and recycling schedules will resume the following week. This holiday provides an opportunity to reflect on the history and contributions of Indigenous peoples. For more information on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, visit the Bureau of Indian Affairs website.

City officials encourage residents to plan accordingly for the service disruptions and to learn more about local events happening in the area.

City staff stated that regular schedules will be restored on Friday, October 17th.
