Dallas Wings Name Jose Fernandez as New Head Coach
The Dallas Wings announced today, November 7, 2025, that Jose Fernandez has been named the team’s new head coach, tasked with elevating the franchise’s performance in a rapidly growing WNBA.
Fernandez joins the Wings after 25 years building the South Florida Bulls program, establishing himself as a highly respected figure in the sport. He expressed enthusiasm for the challenge, stating, “A lot of people were scared of this job. I wasn’t scared. There’s a lot of pressure here, but pressure is a privilege. You have to be calm under pressure and under chaos in this position. I look forward to bringing a level of championship excellence in everything we do.”
General Manager Curt Miller voiced strong support for the hire, noting the demanding nature of the position. “This job isn’t for everybody. This job is a tough job. The scrutiny that comes with the Dallas [Wings] job scares some people. It motivated Jose,” Miller said. Fernandez will be responsible for guiding a team that includes last year’s No. 1 overall pick and Rookie of the Year, Paige Bueckers, and will aim to improve upon the team’s 10-win record from the previous season. Fernandez will now focus on preparations for the upcoming WNBA season, scheduled to begin in May. The team anticipates a significant impact from his experience, as detailed in recent coverage of the WingsGameday website.
