King Charles III Formally Strips Prince Andrew of Royal Titles
The formal removal of Prince Andrew’s royal titles, including his status as a Prince of the United Kingdom and the Duke of York, has been officially recorded in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record, effective as of last Thursday.
The King’s decision, enacted through Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated November 3, 2025, and a Royal Warrant, follows weeks of increased scrutiny regarding Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The official record states Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is “no longer entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince’.” This action marks a significant departure from centuries of royal tradition and underscores the monarchy’s efforts to distance itself from scandal.
Buckingham Palace announced last week that Andrew would also be relinquishing his Royal Lodge residence in Windsor. He previously surrendered other royal titles, including the Duke of York, in October, following renewed questions about his personal life. Earlier this year, newly released emails revealed a longer period of contact with Epstein than previously acknowledged, and Virginia Giuffre reiterated allegations in a recently published memoir of sexual assault by Andrew, claims he has consistently and vehemently denied. The move comes as the royal family continues to navigate public perception and maintain the integrity of the institution. Buckingham Palace stated yesterday that Andrew did not object to the King’s decision, and officials have indicated no further comment will be provided at this time.
