Former National League MVP Kris Bryant is at the centre of a challenging situation for the Colorado Rockies, as one of the league’s most difficult contracts to move, according to a recent Bleacher Report assessment. Just over three years after signing a 7-year, $182 million deal, the 33-year-old outfielder’s tenure in Colorado has been hampered by persistent injuries and substantially diminished performance. The Rockies now face difficult decisions regarding the future of the once-highly-regarded player.

Kris Bryant, the 2016 National League MVP, is facing a challenging situation as one of the most difficult contracts to trade in Major League Baseball, according to a recent assessment by Bleacher Report. The Colorado Rockies outfielder, now 33, currently ranks as the third-most untradeable player in the league.
Bryant signed a lucrative 7-year, $182 million deal with the Rockies in March 2022, but his time in Colorado has been plagued by injuries. He’s been limited to a maximum of 80 games played in a single season since joining the team.
This season has been particularly difficult for Bryant, who has appeared in just 11 games, going 6-for-39 at the plate with no home runs and only one RBI. His batting average sits at a mere .154. He hasn’t seen action in a Major League game since April 12th.
The ongoing struggles have clearly taken a toll on Bryant, who recently shared his frustrations with the Denver Post. “I wish I could give you guys some good news,” Bryant said. “My back hasn’t been feeling great, which is really frustrating. Just waking up every day hoping to feel a little better… it’s exhausting. I don’t even remember the last time I woke up feeling good.”
Bleacher Report suggests that any potential trade for Bryant would likely require the Rockies to package him with promising prospects, or find a team willing to absorb his substantial salary – ideally a club already in a rebuilding phase. The Rockies are facing a difficult decision as they weigh their options for the former MVP.
Rounding out the top two on Bleacher Report’s list of the 10 most difficult contracts to move were Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout at number two, and Xander Bogaerts, the star shortstop for the San Diego Padres, at number one.
