The Latvian men’s doubles luge team of Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme finished sixth at the World Cup event in Altenberg, Germany on Saturday, narrowly ahead of teammates Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics and Lūkas Krasts.
Austrians Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl took the gold, with Bots and Plūme finishing 0.383 seconds behind. Germany’s Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who had already secured the season-long World Cup title, did not participate in the final race.
In the first heat, Bots and Plūme posted the fifth-fastest time among the 15 competing teams, while Ševics-Mikeļševics and Krasts landed within the top ten. Ševics-Mikeļševics and Krasts ended the two runs trailing the winners by 0.706 seconds.
Later on Saturday, Latvia will be represented in the women’s doubles competition by Anda Upīte and Madara Pavlova, and Marta Robežniece and Kitija Bogdanova.
The men’s and women’s singles races will begin with the first heat on Saturday, with the final results and medalists determined after the second heat on Sunday. The event will conclude with the team relay.
