LeBron James has indicated the 2024 Paris Olympics will likely be his last appearance on the international stage, signaling the end of an era for Team USA basketball.

Speaking on the Mind the Game podcast, James definitively stated he will not compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Fellow superstar Stephen Curry echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “Never say never, but I highly doubt it.”

James, who will turn 41 next month, is nearing the end of his storied career. Curry, 37, had previously expressed interest in participating in the 2028 Games, but only if he felt he could contribute at a high level.

James and Curry powered Team USA to a fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris, forming a dynamic duo that captivated fans. It marked Curry’s Olympic debut and the first extended period the two icons played together outside of All-Star competitions.

Team USA’s dominant victories over Serbia and France in the Olympic tournament were particularly meaningful for James, solidifying his decision to conclude his Olympic career on a high note.

“We can’t top what we just did. How are we gonna top those last two games? And just the moment, we can’t top those last two games,” James explained. “We literally played France in Paris for the final. It would’ve been like in ’08, during the Redeem Team, if we would’ve played China in the final.”

While fans would undoubtedly welcome further opportunities to witness Curry and James compete on the Olympic stage, their gold-medal run in Paris appears to be the final chapter of their international partnership. The victory cemented Team USA’s dominance in men’s basketball and provided a thrilling conclusion to a memorable tournament.
