Chinese Gym Offers Porsche to Participant Who Loses 110 Pounds in Three Months
A gym in northern China is offering a Porsche Panamera as a grand prize to anyone who can lose 50 kg (approximately 110 pounds) in three months, sparking both excitement and concern about the health risks of such rapid weight loss.
The fitness center in Binzhou, Shandong province, launched the challenge requiring participants to pay a 10,000 yuan (roughly $1,400 USD) registration fee covering meals and accommodation during the intensive three-month training program. A coach, identified only as Wang, confirmed the offer is “real” and that seven to eight entrants have already signed up, according to reports from the South China Morning Post. Participants will adhere to strict diets and training regimens in a controlled environment.
However, medical professionals have cautioned against the challenge’s aggressive goals. Dr. Zeng, a medical influencer with nearly 3.5 million followers on Weibo, warned that losing 0.5kg (1.1 lbs) per day is “far too fast,” potentially leading to muscle loss, hormonal imbalances, and other health complications. Rapid weight loss can also strain organs and even be life-threatening, according to Pu Yansong, a gastrointestinal surgeon at Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital. This type of extreme weight loss challenge highlights the growing global focus on weight management and the potential dangers of unrealistic fitness goals. The Porsche Panamera being offered is a used 2020 model owned by the gym owner, valued at around 1.1 million yuan (approximately $155,000 USD). Officials have not yet commented on contingency plans should multiple participants reach the 50 kg weight loss target.
