Amy Poehler & Bowen Yang Joke About Role Model’s Identity in New SNL Promos
New promotional videos for this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live feature host Amy Poehler and cast member Bowen Yang playfully teasing musical guest Role Model over a misunderstanding about his identity.
In the promos, Poehler introduces herself and Role Model, stating, “Hi, I’m Amy Poehler and I’ll be hosting SNL this week with Role Model.” Yang then repeats the introduction. When Role Model attempts to say the same, he pauses and questions, “Hi, I’m Amy Poehler… I think the cue card’s wrong?” Poehler responds sternly, “Role Model, that kind of diva behavior doesn’t fly around here.” Role Model clarifies, “Yeah, I’m not Amy Poehler…” to which Yang sighs, “Oh great, it’s gonna be one of those weeks.”
The lighthearted exchange is part of a larger promotional push for the show, which also includes a bit where Poehler attempts to serve court papers to Yang, declaring, “You know what you did!” Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, is making his debut appearance on Saturday Night Live. Poehler previously served as a cast member from 2001 to 2008 and has hosted twice before, including a co-hosting stint with Tina Fey in 2015.
Role Model recently achieved his first Billboard No. 1 with his breakout hit “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, and has become known for incorporating a rotating cast of celebrities – including Natalie Portman and Olivia Rodrigo – as “Sally” during live performances. This playful dynamic with Poehler and Yang suggests a potentially memorable episode.
Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and streams on Peacock, and officials have indicated the show will continue its tradition of topical commentary and celebrity appearances.
