The Latvian Floorball League saw a major upset Tuesday night in Ādaži, as the previously undefeated “Masters Ulbroka/LU” suffered their first loss of the season. the reigning champions fell 6-5 to SĀC in a back-and-forth contest that wasn’t decided until the final minute, marking a meaningful shift in the league standings.While “Masters Ulbroka” retains the top spot, the loss opens the door for teams like kocēnu “Rubene” to challenge their dominance as the season progresses.
The “Masters Ulbroka/LU” team, the reigning champions of the Latvian Floorball League, suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, falling 6-5 to SĀC in a thrilling contest in Ādaži.
Ulbroka jumped out to an early lead, scoring three goals to SĀC’s one in the first period. However, the home side battled back, narrowing the gap twice before finally leveling the score at 4-4 early in the third.
The teams continued to trade goals, and with under a minute remaining, Tomass Kristofers Birstiņš capitalized on a defensive breakdown in front of the Ulbroka net to give SĀC a 6-5 lead – a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Despite a late push, the league leaders were unable to find an equalizer in the remaining 45 seconds.
Kevins Šmits led the way for SĀC with four goals, while Dēvids Osītis contributed with one goal and two assists. For “Masters Ulbroka,” Emīls Jančevskis and Jurģis Patriks Aizupietis each tallied a goal and an assist.
Despite the loss, “Masters Ulbroka” remains at the top of the league standings with 41 points from 15 games. Kocēnu “Rubene” sits in second place with 38 points in 14 games. FBK “SĀC” holds seventh place with 17 points, now just one point behind Ķekava/RB&B.
In a concurrent match, “Masters Ulbroka’s” first league team also secured a victory. Facing off against Sporta Klubs “Leģions/Grobiņas sporta centrs,” they dominated their opponents with a final score of 11-3.
Gustavs Liekniņš and Kristaps Piebalgs each recorded two goals and two assists for Ulbroka, powering their team to a decisive win. With this victory, “Masters Ulbroka” has climbed to second place in the standings with 20 points after ten rounds, trailing Kuldīgas NSS/”Linde grupa” by three points. This win solidifies their position as a strong contender in the league.
