The 1975’s Matty Healy Removes Song From Latest Album

The 1975’s frontman, Matty Healy, unexpectedly removed the song “Human Too” from the band’s 2022 album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, yesterday, citing a personal change of heart regarding its place on the record.

Healy revealed his decision in a comment on a Reddit thread discussing the song’s disappearance from streaming services, stating, “Hey! Human Too was removed from the album so the album is more how I want it to be.” He clarified that previous physical releases of the album will remain unchanged, and the track is still available on the band’s YouTube page. This move highlights the increasing control artists have over their work in the digital age.

The artist also hinted at potentially removing another song, “What Should I Say” from the 2020 album Notes On A Conditional Form, adding, “I am pretty happy with them outside of ‘What Should I Say’… So that may also be removed, who knows.” Following a plea from a fan on the subreddit begging him not to remove “What Should I Say,” Healy responded with a simple, “Ok no worries x.” Fans have reacted with a mix of disappointment and acceptance, with some celebrating their ownership of physical copies still containing the track.

Being Funny in a Foreign Language received a four-star review from Rolling Stone upon its release, and remains the band’s most recent studio album, followed by live releases and a collaboration with Charli XCX. Healy has not indicated whether further revisions to the band’s discography are planned.
