Mayhem Announces New Album “Liturgy Of Death” and European Tour
Influential Norwegian black metal band Mayhem will release its seventh studio album, “Liturgy Of Death,” on February 6, 2026, accompanied by a European headlining tour featuring support from Marduk and Immolation.
The new album, arriving over six years after their previous studio release “Daemon,” delves into themes of mortality, loss, and the fragility of existence. Mayhem describes “Liturgy Of Death” as a celebration of their legacy and a continuation of the raw sound that defined their beginnings. The first single, “Weep For Nothing,” reframes the fear of death as a revelation, offering a stark and unrelenting sonic experience. The band—Attila Csihar on vocals, Ghul and Teloch on guitars, Necrobutcher on bass, and Hellhammer on drums—reportedly recorded a particularly cohesive and powerful set of tracks.
The “Death Over Europe” tour kicks off February 5, 2026, in Groningen, Netherlands, and concludes February 28, 2026, in Gothenburg, Sweden, with stops in the UK, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and several other European countries. This tour follows a December 2024 European run and an Australian tour in January, coming after the cancellation of a North American 40th-anniversary tour last fall due to a band member’s medical emergency. Black metal, originating in the early 1980s, continues to exert a significant influence on extreme metal subgenres worldwide, and Mayhem remains a pivotal act within the scene; you can learn more about the history of the genre here.
Mayhem’s previous live album, “Daemonic Rites,” was released in September 2023. The band has stated that the new album and tour represent a vital and dangerous chapter in their four-decade career. Officials confirmed today that pre-sale tickets for the European tour will begin November 8, 2025, and further details can be found on the band’s official website.
