Amidst ongoing political debate in mexico, a counter-demonstration is planned for December 6th in support of President Claudia Sheinbaum and her administration’s policies . Dubbed the “March of the Tiger,” the rally comes in response to a protest held last Saturday and aims to publicly display backing for Sheinbaum’s “Fourth Conversion” project. Organizers, identifying as patriotic youth, are coordinating the event via social media, signaling a growing divide among Mexico’s younger citizens.

A second demonstration organized by the youth group Generation Z Mexico is planned for Thursday, November 20, in response to reported arrests and clashes with authorities during a protest on Saturday, November 15. Simultaneously, a separate mobilization is gaining traction on social media, with young people organizing a rally in support of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The emerging demonstration, dubbed the “March of the Tiger,” is being coordinated through posts on X, with participants aiming to publicly express their backing for Sheinbaum’s administration. The planned march comes as the president faces ongoing challenges in her first year in office.

Who is organizing the ‘March of the Tiger’?

Images circulating online since Wednesday indicate the protest is being organized by self-described “patriotic youth” who support the current government and the broader “Fourth Transformation” political project initiated by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and continued by Sheinbaum. The promotional materials for the march feature a widely circulated photograph of López Obrador and Sheinbaum with their hands raised during her inauguration on October 1, 2024.

“What they left us with love, we will defend with love,” reads a message accompanying the call to action.

While no prominent figures have publicly taken credit for organizing the event, some social media users identify themselves as young supporters of the Fourth Transformation. The planned demonstration underscores a growing political divide within Mexico.

Some participants suggest the “March of the Tiger” is intended to counter the Generation Z march held Saturday, which protested insecurity and demanded justice in the case of Carlos Manzo. Others state the march is meant to acknowledge progress in poverty reduction and improvements in national security.

When is the ‘March of the Tiger’?

Organizers have announced the “March of the Tiger” will take place on Saturday, December 6, beginning at the Angel of Independence at 9:00 a.m. The planned route has not been disclosed, though participants anticipate marching to the Zócalo, Mexico City’s central plaza.

One user stated the march aims to defend President Sheinbaum and celebrate the historic achievement of having a woman in the country’s highest office. “We seek to demonstrate that young people support having a woman govern Mexico,” they said.

Participants also expressed a desire to defend national sovereignty and oppose foreign intervention and calls for the United States to intervene in Mexico to combat drug cartels.
