Jimmy Donaldson, widely known as MrBeast, a prominent figure in online content creation, has publicly shared his long-term battle with Crohn’s disease. The diagnosis, received at age 15, has significantly impacted his life, requiring ongoing medical management and influencing his daily routines.

Donaldson revealed details about his experience in a 2025 interview on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast, which has recently gained renewed attention on social media. He described the initial onset of symptoms, including frequent gastrointestinal distress and substantial weight loss. “I started going to the bathroom eight, nine, 10 times a day, not digesting any food because my GI track is, like, literally just attacking itself,” he explained. This period led to a loss of nearly 60 pounds and forced him to abandon his aspirations in baseball.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the digestive tract. The disease occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue in the gut, leading to inflammation and a range of symptoms. These can include persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss. Understanding the complexities of chronic illnesses like Crohn’s disease is crucial for improving patient care and support.

Donaldson detailed the physical pain associated with his condition, stating, “It feels like someone’s stabbing you in the gut with, like, a knife constantly.” He has undergone various treatments, including Remicade, a medication that suppresses the immune system. While effective in managing the disease, such treatments can increase susceptibility to infections.

The YouTuber has likewise discussed how Crohn’s disease affects his diet and social life. Infliximab, a common treatment for Crohn’s, is a biologic medication made from living cells that weakens the immune system. This can make patients more vulnerable to infections.

Despite the challenges, Donaldson continues to create content and engage with his massive online following, which includes over 475 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 114 million followers on TikTok. His openness about his health journey aims to raise awareness about Crohn’s disease and provide support for others living with chronic illnesses.
