Netflix and Spotify Partner to Bring Video Podcasts to Streaming Platform

Netflix and Spotify have announced a partnership that will bring a selection of popular original podcasts, including content from The Ringer, to Netflix subscribers worldwide, marking a significant expansion of Netflix’s content offerings beyond traditional video.

The deal, unveiled today, will initially focus on video versions of podcasts in the sports, culture, lifestyle, and true-crime genres. Titles include “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” “The Rewatchables,” and “Serial Killers.” The collaboration aims to capitalize on the growing popularity of video podcasts, with recent data from Cumulus Media indicating that 72% of podcast listeners now prefer shows with a video component. The video podcasts will first launch in the U.S. in early 2026, with plans for international rollout to follow.

“This partnership marks a new chapter for podcasting,” said Roman Wasenmüller, VP, head of podcasts at Spotify, in a statement. “Together with Netflix, we’re expanding discovery, helping creators reach new audiences and giving fans around the world the chance to experience the stories they love and uncover favorites they never expected.” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos previously indicated the company’s interest in the space, stating in April that “as the popularity of video podcasts grow, I suspect you’ll see some of them find their way to Netflix.” This move signals a broader trend of streaming services diversifying their content to attract and retain subscribers, as detailed in recent reports on The Verge.

Lauren Smith, Netflix’s VP of content licensing and programming strategy, added that the partnership “ensures we bring the full video versions of these top shows to Netflix and Spotify.” The companies stated that the initial selection of titles is “just the beginning,” with plans to add more podcasts across various genres and studios in the future.
