Wizz Air will resume flights from Gdańsk, Poland, to Rijeka, Croatia, beginning June 9th, a route last served in 2013. The new service introduces potential competition for Polish State Railways (PKP) Intercity’s summer Adriatic train connection.

The re-establishment of air service to Rijeka marks a return to a route previously operated by Eurolot in 2013, before the state-owned carrier ceased operations a decade ago. While other Croatian destinations like Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar have seen continued air connectivity, Rijeka has remained without direct flights from Gdańsk until now.

Interest in Rijeka as a travel destination has increased recently, spurred by the launch of PKP Intercity’s summer train service to the Adriatic city in June. We previously reported on how residents of the Tricity area could utilize the new rail connection.

Flights to Begin June 9th, Operating Twice Weekly

For the upcoming travel season, passengers will have an additional option for reaching Rijeka, as Wizz Air announced it will operate flights twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting June 9th.

Currently, bookings are not yet available on the airline’s website, but Wizz Air has indicated that fares will begin at 109 złoty. PKP IC also plans to reinstate its Rijeka service next season, with an anticipated reduction in travel time of approximately three hours, bringing the total journey to around 16 hours compared to this year’s schedule.
