The highly anticipated all-new Toyota Corolla is set to debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, but early images leaked by Autohome have already revealed significant changes to the popular Japanese model.
While Toyota is still withholding the full technical specifications, key details have been released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), signaling a substantial evolution for the compact car.
The most notable update is the vehicle’s increased size. The new Corolla now measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, and 1,435 mm in height. Its wheelbase has also been extended to 2,750 mm.
This marks the first time the Corolla has grown to nearly match the dimensions of its larger sibling, the Camry. This increase in size translates to more interior space for passengers and a more commanding road presence.
Visually, the new model features a completely redesigned and more expressive front end. The most striking element is the new C-shaped headlights, giving the front a distinctive and somewhat aggressive look.
The overall styling of the front fascia incorporates clear family design cues, echoing elements found in the current Camry, Prius, and RAV4 SUV models.
Toyota is streamlining its design language, giving its new models a consistent and dynamic appearance. The Chinese market, a crucial region for Toyota, will be the first to receive the new Corolla with two powertrain options.
These options balance traditional power with hybrid efficiency. The base model will be equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 171 horsepower – providing ample power for everyday driving.
For buyers prioritizing fuel economy and environmental responsibility, a self-charging hybrid system based around a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine will be available. According to data confirmed by MIIT, this hybrid system promises improved efficiency and reduced emissions.
