Firefighters across Norway responded to multiple blazes Wednesday night, including a significant fire at a farm building and a fire sparked by fireworks inside a sports hall.
A large fire destroyed a barn in Løten Wednesday evening, with police reporting the structure and several vehicles inside were a total loss.
Fire crews were working to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes, according to the Innlandet police district at 9:32 PM local time.
“No people are currently in danger,” said operations leader Frode Øvreås.
The first report of the fire came in at 9:07 PM.
Fire at Plastic Hall
In Time, Rogaland, a fire broke out inside a plastic hall. Police say the fire was started by young people using all-terrain vehicles to set off fireworks inside the building.
“There are large flames in the hall,” police reported.
Authorities later said firefighters had extinguished the main blaze.
“The fire is out now, but there is a lot of smoke and good ventilation, so there is a risk it could start again,” police said.
Fire in Hemsedal
Thirty-six people were evacuated after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Hemsedal.
“Local resources have been notified and are preparing possible measures. The fire department is working to get the fire under control, with a risk of spreading to apartments connected to where the fire started,” police reported at 9:40 PM.
“The fire department is fully engaged. A fire is burning in an exterior wall of an apartment. We are now demolishing structures to gain access to the construction where the fire is located,” said watch leader Jan Rundtom of Sørøst 110 at 10:20 PM.
Authorities reported the fire was under control at 10:45 PM.
Busy Night for Fire Crews
Shortly after 10 PM, police in Trøndelag reported a fire in a wooden building in Stjørdal.
“All residents of the building have been evacuated,” said operations leader Trond Hangaas.
A car caught fire in Målselv in Troms on Wednesday afternoon, and the flames spread to a house. Two people were examined by ambulance personnel, and the fire department quickly gained control of the blaze.
