Norrie Upsets Alcaraz at Paris Masters, Ending Spaniard’s Winning Streak
Cameron Norrie stunned World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz today at the Rolex Paris Masters, defeating the Spaniard 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and snapping Alcaraz’s 17-match winning streak in ATP Masters 1000 events.
The match, held in Paris, saw Alcaraz struggle with 54 unforced errors and uncharacteristic timing issues, despite winning the first set. Norrie, who lost in the qualifying round at this tournament last year, secured his first career victory against a top-ranked player. “Massive, so big for me,” Norrie said after the match. “I have been coming back from my injury…to get a win like this, the biggest of my career, my first over a World No. 1 is just so pleased with the way I did it.”
Alcaraz’s defeat raises the stakes in the race for year-end No. 1, potentially opening the door for Jannik Sinner to reclaim the top spot if he wins the Paris title. While Alcaraz currently leads the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, Sinner’s performance this week could shift the rankings. This result also marks only the third time in tournament history the top seed has been upset in the opening round in Paris.
Norrie will next face either Valentin Vacherot or Arthur Rinderknech in the round of 16. The British lefty is aiming to improve upon his previous best result in Paris, reaching the round of 16 for the first time since 2023. Tournament officials confirmed that the next round will begin tomorrow as scheduled.
