Pertamina Warns Against Fuel Subsidy Fraud, Urges Regular QR Code Resets to Prevent Quota Theft
Pertamina is tightening security measures surrounding its subsidized fuel distribution system, cautioning consumers against the use of third-party registration services and urging users to periodically reset their QR codes to protect their fuel allocations.
The state-owned energy company has identified a concerning trend involving “biro jasa” (service agencies) that offer to handle the registration of barcodes for subsidized fuel. Pertamina has warned that these third-party services create significant security gaps, potentially exposing user data and compromising the integrity of the subsidy system. This move highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to ensure that subsidized energy reaches the intended recipients while mitigating fraudulent activity.
Beyond registration fraud, the company is addressing a critical vulnerability regarding quota misuse. Because QR codes can be shared or stolen, there is a risk that unauthorized individuals may use another person’s code to purchase subsidized Pertalite. This results in the rightful owner’s fuel quota being exhausted by others, effectively denying them access to the subsidized pricing.
To combat this, Pertamina is urging users to routinely reset their QR codes. Regular resets serve as a primary defense mechanism, invalidating old codes that may have been compromised and ensuring that only the authorized vehicle owner can access the subsidy.
The company has also addressed common operational hurdles faced by applicants. There are three primary reasons why barcode registrations are rejected, often stemming from data inconsistencies or failure to meet eligibility criteria.
