Latvian public radio station Radio NABA will mark 23 years of broadcasting with a day-long festivity of arts and sound on December 1. The station, which began as a platform for choice culture in 2002, will host “NABA raida XXIII,” a marathon featuring live music, poetry, and discussions with program creators and special guests. The event underscores Radio NABA’s commitment to independent voices and non-commercial programming within Latvia’s media landscape.
Latvian public radio station Radio NABA will celebrate its 23rd anniversary Monday, December 1, with an all-day experimental arts and sound marathon, “NABA raida XXIII.” The event promises a full schedule of live music, discussions, and creative events.
The broadcast, running from noon until late into the evening, will feature contributions from Radio NABA program creators, musicians, poets, and special guests. The station, which began broadcasting on Latvia’s FM waves in 2002, has become known for its focus on alternative culture and independent voices.
“The day will be structured as a continuous flow of sound, words, and experimentation – live concerts, poetry readings, conversations with on-air instructors, interviews, and interactive activities for listeners,” station representatives said. “Listeners can expect guests on the air, contests, games, exclusive conversations, and unexpected surprises characteristic of Radio NABA’s creative spirit.” A detailed musical lineup has been released, including performances by Alejas at 12:30 p.m., Difūzija at 1:30 p.m., Suzanna at 2:30 p.m., EIII at 3:30 p.m., Laiki at 4:30 p.m., Zvīņas at 5:30 p.m., Seržants Bēda at 6:30 p.m., Vaaks/Vakuums at 7:30 p.m., and Trīsas at 8:30 p.m.
Teams from Radio NABA’s popular programs – including “Nabarīts,” “Studentu pietura,” “Subharmonija,” “Kinetic,” “KŪL,” “Bitīt matos,” “Subjektīvie mērījumi,” “Top 10/25,” and “Bron-hīts” – will be at the studio and microphones throughout the day. The celebration will conclude with broadcasts from “Stacija OB” and “Astoņi pustoņi.”
Radio NABA describes itself as “an open, non-commercial medium that reflects the processes and events of culture, urban intellectual environment, student life, and alternative lifestyles in a qualitative, lively, and dynamic way.” The station’s representatives emphasize that “NABA is a radio for people who are interested in more than just standard commercial product in both music and information.” The station currently offers more than 50 regularly scheduled programs. The event follows the recent release of a new single by Papīra Lidmašīnas, a Latvian band.
