Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck Reignite 2007 ‘The View’ Feud

Former “The View” co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are once again publicly addressing a contentious 2007 on-air argument, with O’Donnell responding to Hasselbeck’s claims that the fight was “set up” by the show’s production team.

Hasselbeck recently shared emotional responses on Instagram Stories, alleging the infamous split-screen debate about American military activity in the Middle East was “prepared” by then-producer Bill Geddie, who passed away in 2023. O’Donnell, reacting to a segment on Fox News, responded sarcastically on TikTok, stating, “What a surprise,” and then read excerpts of Hasselbeck’s statements. “You forgive me? What a relief,” O’Donnell quipped, adding, “Nothing’s holding me back, Elisabeth. Knock, knock. Who’s there? Rosie O’Donnell! I don’t hold back, sweetheart.”

O’Donnell continued to express that the disagreement wasn’t about Hasselbeck’s character, but about presenting the truth from her perspective. She advised Hasselbeck to “stop lying” and “just enjoy your life,” and added, “Don’t worry about me or my freedom or joy.” This public dispute resurfaces a pivotal moment in daytime television history, contributing to O’Donnell’s eventual departure from the show shortly after the incident. Hasselbeck had previously pleaded with O’Donnell to stop “the bullying” and offered to have dinner to discuss the matter, stating, “If you want to get together and talk, let’s do it.” O’Donnell, however, maintained that she rarely thinks about Hasselbeck unless prompted by interviewers. The Committee to Protect Journalists offers resources on combating harassment of journalists, a concern often raised in the context of public figures facing scrutiny.

Representatives for “The View” and Hasselbeck have been contacted for comment. It remains to be seen if the two former co-hosts will engage in a private conversation to resolve their differences.
