Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) continues it’s phased upgrades to the vital S7 expressway, a key artery connecting Warsaw to northern Poland and the Baltic Sea coast[[1]]. Recent announcements detail the opening of additional segments north of Warsaw, bringing the roadway closer to its full, three-lane capacity[[2]]. While portions are now fully operational, completion of the entire route-a project intended to boost regional economic growth-remains on track for 2026, contingent on permit approvals and weather conditions.
Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) has divided the expansion of national road number 7, north of Warsaw, into three contracts, each focused on upgrading the route to a two-lane, three-lane expressway. This project aims to improve transportation infrastructure in the region and support economic growth.
“Drivers have been utilizing the first completed section, Modlin – Czosnów, since October,” the Ministry announced on Friday. “Today, we are opening two additional segments: Płońsk Południe – Załuski (12.9 km) and Załuski – Modlin (12 km). Drivers will have access to two lanes with three traffic lanes each, though speed restrictions will be in place on the section closest to Płońsk.”
The Ministry further stated that the Załuski – Modlin segment is fully completed and has received approval for use, allowing for the implementation of permanent traffic management. Drivers can also utilize the Zakroczym and Załuski interchanges.

Work on the Płońsk Południe and Załuski section is still ongoing, with a speed limit of 100 km/h currently in effect. All connections at the Poczernin interchange are available, while the Przyborowice interchange remains closed. The Ministry anticipates completing these works in the first half of 2026, pending weather conditions.
According to the Ministry’s statement, one segment of the S7 highway between Warsaw and the Tricity area – Czosnów – Warsaw – remains unfinished, and is divided into two phases. The Mazovian Voivodeship is currently reviewing an application for a permit to begin construction on the 9-kilometer stretch between Czosnów and Kiełpin. Work is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026, following the issuance of this permit.
“For the final section, from Kiełpin to Warsaw, spanning 12.9 km, project documentation is being prepared to secure the necessary permit. The documentation review is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. This segment will be constructed by a contractor selected through a tender process following the approval of the building permit,” the Ministry added.
