Samsung’s aspiring home robotics project, Ballie, remains grounded despite initial projections for a summer 2025 release. The AI-powered companion robot, first unveiled as a prototype in 2020 and refined over the past four years, continues to face developmental hurdles as samsung aims to deliver a polished consumer experience. While registration for updates remains open, consumers hoping to add Ballie to their homes will have to wait, as the company focuses on further perfecting the technology.
- Samsung’s Ballie robot remains unavailable despite a promised launch in summer 2025
- Ballie is still under development, and Samsung continues to refine the AI-powered companion robot

Consumers wondering about the status of Samsung’s Ballie robot companion – initially reintroduced at CES 2025 with a projected summer release – are not alone.
Ballie has been a long-anticipated project within Samsung’s portfolio. First showcased as a prototype in 2020 without immediate plans for consumer availability, Samsung later revived the concept in 2024, featuring a larger form factor and enhanced AI capabilities. The robot was again presented at CES 2025, with a commitment to launch in the first half of the year. This type of home robotics represents a growing trend in consumer technology, aiming to integrate AI into everyday life.
Samsung confirmed in April that Ballie would launch in the US and Korea during the summer of 2025 – a registration page, similar to those used for upcoming Galaxy smartphone releases, even appeared on the company’s website. Now, as of December 2025, registration for updates remains open, but Ballie is not yet available for purchase.
When reached for comment, a Samsung spokesperson told TechRadar: “We continue to refine and perfect the technology to deliver an even more seamless customer experience.”
In short, Ballie is not quite ready for prime time, and Samsung is still actively developing its AI-powered companion robot. The delay underscores the challenges of bringing sophisticated robotics to market.
More than a Samsung Frame TV, a smart refrigerator, or a smartphone – and akin to technologies like Galaxy AI or Vision AI – Ballie is designed to be a companion: one that can roam your home, project images and content, and also function as a helpful assistant.
Samsung demonstrated Ballie’s projection capabilities and AI features in a looped demo at CES 2025, but attendees were not given the opportunity for hands-on interaction. A genuine, practical experience will likely be needed as the project moves closer to consumer availability and Samsung continues to refine the robot’s functionality.
Ballie takes the form of a bright yellow, nearly basketball-sized sphere that rolls around on wheels to navigate a single floor. It does not handle stairs, but compensates for its lack of legs with a suite of sensors. It features a LiDAR sensor stack with a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor, speakers, microphones, a rear 2K camera, and a front camera with 4K resolution, and a projector.

The next update regarding Ballie remains to be seen, but hopefully Samsung will provide more concrete details regarding its next steps. A further reveal could occur at CES 2026, and perhaps we’ll finally receive a confirmed launch date for the US and Korea, along with pricing information.
We may also see another demo reel, and Ballie will continue to be something we hear and see, but don’t yet interact with.
