Saudi Arabia: Longest School Holiday of 2026 Announced

A 23-Day Break for Students and Teachers in Saudi Arabia – That’s what awaits millions across the Kingdom starting tomorrow, as the longest school holiday of the current academic year officially begins. The extended break comes as families prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

Educational institutions throughout Saudi Arabia will be closed for instruction beginning Friday, March 6, 2026 (17 Ramadan 1447H) and continuing through March 28, 2026 (9 Shawwal 1447H). Classes will resume on Sunday, March 29.

According to the academic calendar approved by the Ministry of Education, this exceptional holiday follows the end of classes last Thursday, March 5, giving students and educators a significant opportunity to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and spend extended time with family.

  • Holiday Begins: Friday, March 6, 2026
  • Holiday Ends: Friday, March 28, 2026
  • Return to Classes: Sunday, March 29, 2026
  • Beneficiaries: Students and teachers of all educational levels

The Ministry had previously determined that classroom instruction in the month of Ramadan would be limited to just 11 days for all levels, taking into consideration the needs of those observing the fast and the importance of reducing academic pressure during the holy month.
