New Science Center Opens at University of Nevada’s Main Station Field Lab
A new science center officially opened today at the University of Nevada, Reno’s Main Station Field Lab, promising to enhance agricultural research and education in the region.
The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources celebrated the grand opening of the facility this afternoon. The center boasts state-of-the-art classrooms and is intended to serve as a central hub for the college’s teaching, research, and community outreach efforts. Prior to this development, researchers faced logistical challenges conducting even basic on-site analysis.
“If you need to take a, let’s say a blood sample, you wouldn’t have facilities to do analysis out here you’d have to take it on campus,” explained College Dean Bill Payne. “And even something as basic as restrooms we didn’t have for students out here. They had to use the restroom, they had to go to Wolf Pack Meats.” The new center also includes a significantly upgraded feedlot, furthering the college’s capabilities in animal science. This investment addresses critical infrastructure gaps that previously hindered field research and student learning experiences.
The addition of this center is expected to attract further investment and collaboration in Nevada’s agricultural sector, a key component of the state’s economy.
