Colts Work Out Veteran Pass Rusher Shaq Lawson
The Indianapolis Colts held a workout today with veteran defensive end Shaq Lawson, among other free agents, as they continue to evaluate potential additions to their defensive line.
Lawson, 31, a former first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2016, has played for five NFL teams throughout his career, including two stints with the Bills, as well as time with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers. He has appeared in 110 regular-season games, making 38 starts, and has recorded 26.0 career sacks. Also worked out yesterday were defensive ends Myles Cole and Viliami Fehoko, defensive tackles Christopher Hinton and Maurice Hurst, and defensive end Chris Wormley.
This comes after the Colts recently brought in another veteran pass rusher, Shaq Barrett, for a tryout late last month, signaling a continued search for edge-rushing help despite not making a move before the trade deadline. Improving the pass rush is crucial for the Colts, who currently rank in the middle of the league in sacks.
The team has not announced any immediate plans to sign Lawson or any of the other players who participated in the workout, but will continue to evaluate all options. The Colts’ defensive coordinator will assess the players’ fit within the team’s scheme.
