Bega Valley Regional Gallery Expands with New Contemporary Art Centre

The Bega Valley Regional Gallery in New South Wales, Australia, has completed an expansion adding 500 square meters of space for exhibitions, archives, storage, and workshops, alongside a new facade.

The expansion aims to bolster the Sapphire Coast’s growing tourism sector and provide increased cultural opportunities for local creative communities. The new South East Centre for Contemporary Art (SECCA) will coalesce these functions, creating a more comprehensive cultural hub for the region. This development is part of a broader effort to establish the Sapphire Coast as a significant destination for arts and culture.

The project includes dedicated areas for exhibiting artwork, preserving the gallery’s collection, secure storage, and hands-on workshop spaces. The new facade is intended to modernize the gallery’s appearance and signal its enhanced role within the community. Investing in regional arts infrastructure is increasingly seen as vital for economic development and community wellbeing, as highlighted by the Australia Council for the Arts.

Officials stated the expansion will allow the gallery to host larger and more diverse exhibitions, as well as offer a wider range of educational programs. The Bega Valley Regional Gallery already offers a variety of programs and exhibitions, and this expansion is expected to significantly increase its capacity.

Gallery representatives indicated they are now focused on programming the new spaces and preparing for a series of launch events in the coming weeks.
