Stephen Colbert to Voice Character in New ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Series
Stephen Colbert will lend his voice to the upcoming Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” adding another acting role to the late-night host’s growing resume.
The announcement was made today, October 13, 2025, during New York ComicCon via a pre-recorded video from Colbert himself. He will portray the Digital Dean of Students at Starfleet Academy, a role within the same media company that broadcasts his show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” This expands Colbert’s presence beyond his well-known talk show format, potentially reaching a new audience within the popular science fiction franchise.
In the video, Colbert joked, “Folks I’m sorry I couldn’t be in person with you today but I’m a perfectionist and I just didn’t have enough bunting for my Mugato costume.” He continued, “However nothing could stop me from sharing this exciting news. I am honored to announce that my beautiful voice will be joining ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ as the digital dean of students.” Colbert recently appeared in a cameo role on the show “Elspeth,” playing a talk show host who meets an untimely end, and has a long-standing collaborative relationship with Amy Sedaris. Fans can explore the history of the Star Trek universe on the official website.
“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is scheduled to debut on January 15, 2026. CBS announced in July that “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will conclude in May 2026, leaving Colbert with more time for projects like this. Paramount+ has not yet commented on further casting or plot details.
