Texas Sues Tylenol Makers Over Autism, ADHD Concerns
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit today against Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue, alleging the companies failed to warn consumers about potential links between Tylenol use during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders in children.
The suit, filed on 2025-10-28, claims the companies concealed information regarding a possible connection between acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, and an increased risk of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Paxton stated, “Big Pharma betrayed America by profiting off of pain and pushing pills regardless of the risks,” adding that the corporations “lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets.” This legal action arrives as concerns about medication safety during pregnancy are increasingly scrutinized.
Johnson & Johnson responded by stating it divested its consumer health business years ago, with Kenvue now owning all rights and liabilities related to Tylenol. Kenvue asserted that Paxton’s accusations “lack legal merit and scientific support,” and expressed concern over “the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of acetaminophen and the potential impact that could have on the health of American women and children.” The Food and Drug Administration is currently considering updates to Tylenol labeling, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintains that acetaminophen is generally considered safe during pregnancy when used as directed.
The lawsuit follows recent warnings from former President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., which sparked confusion among expectant mothers. However, medical groups like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have refuted these claims, emphasizing that Tylenol remains a safe option for managing pain and fever during pregnancy and that multiple factors contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders. Paxton’s challenge to incumbent Senator John Cornyn may also be a factor in the timing of this suit.
Kenvue stated it will vigorously defend itself against the allegations, and the case is expected to draw significant attention as it proceeds through the legal system.
