The victory, played before a vibrant crowd at PhilSports Arena, not only marks a significant milestone for Thai futsal but also keeps their hopes alive for advancing to the knockout stage of the prestigious tournament. This win is particularly notable as it’s Thailand’s first at a World Championship as the program began competing internationally in 2015.
Thailand Women’s Futsal Team Secures First Win at World Championship with 6-3 Victory Over Canada
MANILA, Philippines – November 25, 2025 – The Thailand women’s national futsal team earned their first victory at the 2025 FIFA Futsal World Championship, defeating Canada 6-3 at PhilSports Arena in Manila. The win keeps Thailand’s hopes alive for a spot in the knockout stage.
Head Coach Thanahtorn Santanaprasit started with a lineup of Sasiprapa Suksen (GK), Jenjira Bubpha, Areeya Saeturn, Nuttamon Ajkla, and Darika Pienpailun.
Thailand wasted no time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the match. Jenjira Bubpha’s shot was blocked, but the rebound fell perfectly for Darika Pienpailun, who slotted it home.
Four minutes later, the Thai advantage grew to 2-0. Jenjira Bubpha fired in a shot that Darika Pienpailun deflected past the Canadian goalkeeper.
Thailand nearly extended their lead in the seventh minute, but Jenjira Bubpha’s attempt struck the crossbar.
Canada pulled one back in the ninth minute with a free kick. Joelle Gosselin’s shot deflected off the wall and found Esther Broussard for a close-range finish, making it 2-1.
The back-and-forth action continued, with Thailand threatening again in the 12th minute, but Jenjira Bubpha’s effort hit the post.
Canada leveled the score at 2-2 in the 13th minute when Esther Broussard converted a cross from Jed Hummpanh.
Thailand continued to press, with several chances in the 18th minute, but Canadian goalkeeper Léa Palacio stood strong, denying Jenjira Bubpha on multiple occasions.
Just as the first half seemed destined to end tied, Thailand broke through. In the 20th minute, Saengravee Meekhum fired a left-footed shot past the keeper to give Thailand a 3-2 lead heading into the break.
The second half began with another chance for Darika Pienpailun, but her shot was saved, with Jenjira Bubpha unable to convert the rebound.
Canada quickly responded, tying the game at 3-3 in the 23rd minute. Maude Lacroix scored with a left-footed shot that found the back of the net.
Canada was then awarded a penalty in the 24th minute after a foul, but Sasiprapa Suksen denied Joelle Gosselin’s attempt, keeping the score level.
Thailand regained the lead in the 25th minute, as Darika Pienpailun completed her hat trick with a left-footed shot, making it 4-3.
Thailand continued to dominate, extending their lead to 5-3 in the 30th minute. Areeya Saeturn skillfully beat a defender before firing a right-footed shot into the net.
Two minutes later, Thailand made it 6-3 from a corner kick, with Nuttamon Ajkla delivering the ball for Jenjira Bubpha to finish.
Canada attempted a power play in the closing minutes, but Thailand’s defense held firm. Jenjira Bubpha even had a chance to add another, but time expired before she could shoot. The final whistle blew, confirming a 6-3 victory for Thailand.
Canada’s loss eliminates them from contention. Thailand will face Colombia, ranked 8th in the world, in their final group stage match on November 28, 2025, at PhilSports Arena in Manila at 5:00 PM Thailand time. The match will be broadcast live on YouTube: BG SPORTS.
