A new survival-horror experience, Total Chaos, is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5, released unexpectedly as part of the Xbox Partner Preview. The game, developed by Trigger Happy Interactive and published by Apogee Entertainment, aims to deliver a chilling experience for players, amplified by a soundtrack composed by renowned artist Akira Yamaoka – best known for his work on the Silent Hill series.
From DOOM 2 Mod to Full-Fledged Horror Game
Total Chaos has an unusual origin story, evolving from a mod for the classic first-person shooter DOOM 2 into a standalone survival-horror title. The game promises oppressive environments, grotesque creatures, and a mysterious narrative designed to keep players engaged – if they can survive. This release demonstrates the potential for user-generated content to evolve into commercially successful game titles.
“Total Chaos is a descent into the deepest horrors, an experience that combines unsettling exploration, methodical close-quarters combat, limited resources, and grotesque creatures in a hallucinatory journey through a forgotten mining colony called Fort Oasis,” reads the description on the official YouTube trailer. “As your sanity slowly fades, your only chance is to fight, scavenge for resources, and uncover the island’s deadly secrets before you are completely consumed.”
Trigger Happy Interactive designed Total Chaos to be more than a simple walking simulator. Players will need to craft weapons to defend themselves against the horrors they encounter, a common element in the survival-horror genre, alongside resource management and a narrative woven into the game’s environments. “Scavenge for scrap and craft improvised weapons to defend yourself against the horrors that lurk on the island,” the developers explain. “Unearth fragments of forgotten lives scattered across it and reconstruct the chilling mystery of Fort Oasis’s fate. Every discovery brings you closer to a truth that threatens to shatter your sanity.” The game is available now, allowing players to test their limits and attempt to survive until the very end on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, and PS5.
