FUJAIRAH, United Arab Emirates – Authorities in Fujairah have arrested a woman after she brandished a sword in public during celebrations marking the UAE’s 54th National Day. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, prompted a swift response from local police.
The 23-year-old Moroccan national was apprehended following the incident in the Al-Fukait area, according to Fujairah Police. Video footage showed the woman swinging a traditional curved sword, known as a talwar, amidst a crowd of people. One Asian national sustained a minor injury from the blade and was treated at a local hospital, officials said. His condition is currently reported as stable.
Fujairah Police confirmed the suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings. “Such behavior violates UAE laws and traditions and poses a threat to public safety,” authorities stated. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining order during national celebrations, a time when large gatherings are common across the Emirates.
Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, Muhammad Bin Nayeh Al-Taniji, emphasized the commitment to ensuring public safety. “We will take strict measures against anyone engaging in illegal activities,” he said. “The goal is to ensure national celebrations are secure and consistent with UAE values.”
