Cuomo Receives Endorsement from United Clergy Coalition in NYC Mayoral Race
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo received a formal endorsement from the United Clergy Coalition (UCC) yesterday, a significant alliance of faith leaders representing over 150 congregations across New York City’s five boroughs.
The UCC cited Cuomo’s “long record of results for working families, his proven leadership in times of crisis, and his deep respect for the city’s diverse communities of faith” as reasons for their support, according to his campaign team. Bishop Gerald Seabrooks of Rehoboth Cathedral in Brooklyn, and president of the UCC, stated, “Governor Cuomo has consistently demonstrated the strength, compassion, and vision needed to lead New York forward. We proudly stand united with Governor Andrew Cuomo.” This endorsement comes as Cuomo mounts an independent bid for mayor against Democratic nominee Zohran Mandani.
Cuomo’s campaign highlighted the coalition’s focus on his plans to rebuild trust between communities and law enforcement, expand affordable housing, and foster neighborhood economic development. The former governor also recently secured the backing of the New York State Italian American Political Action Committee (NYS IAMPAC). During a rally over the weekend in the Bronx, Cuomo emphasized the city’s diversity, stating, “That’s what New York really is,” referring to its ability to unite people from different backgrounds.
The endorsement follows accusations leveled against Cuomo by his opponent, Assemblyman Mandani, who held a press conference Friday denouncing what he called Islamophobic attacks on his candidacy. Early voting in the mayoral election began yesterday and continues through November 2, with Election Day scheduled for November 4. For more information on voting, visit NYC Votes.
