Vindictus: Defying Fate will launch as a free-to-play title, according to an announcement from Nexon.

The game, based on the Mabinogi Heroes universe, is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and draws inspiration from Celtic mythology. Its story centers on a group of characters resisting fate, featuring an original narrative that reinterprets the source IP. Each character offers a distinct combat rhythm and fighting style, allowing players to switch between them strategically during battles.

Character customization will be a key feature, extending beyond facial options to include body type adjustments, outfit combinations across up to five equipment slots, and dye systems for full visual personalization.

Set in a war-torn world where humans and the Fomore clash over a divine prophecy promising paradise in Erinn, players take on the role of mercenaries from the Blat Brigade. However, the conflict extends beyond simple racial tensions, as players must navigate internal human struggles driven by greed and conflicting values throughout their journey.

Early access testing highlighted the Northern Wastes as a primary combat zone—an ancient ruin overgrown with vegetation currently occupied by the Fomore faction known as the Gnolls. This area serves as both the tutorial zone and the starting point for the full game.

The title aims to deliver intense action gameplay where reading enemy attacks and timing counters is essential for success, staying true to the series’ signature combat style even as introducing modern mechanics and storytelling depth.
