Vinted Users Report Incorrect Sizing After App Update

Second-hand clothing app Vinted has faced a wave of user complaints today after a recent update automatically remapped clothing sizes, leading to listings displaying inaccurate information.

The update, affecting UK members, revised sizing categories for women’s and children’s clothes to align more closely with international standards, but many users claim they were not directly notified of the changes. Shoppers and sellers have taken to social media platforms like TikTok and X to express frustration, with some reporting significant discrepancies between the actual garment size and the size displayed on the app. Hannah-Abby, from Devon, stated, “I think the whole thing just wasn’t clearly thought through,” and was forced to suspend sales on her account due to the time required to manually correct listings.

Vinted explained the change aims to make shopping “easier than ever” and more accurate, particularly for items from international brands. Previously, sizes were listed with both a numeric and letter designation (e.g., S/8), while the new system uses a letter and range (e.g., S/UK 8-10). However, this has resulted in some sizes being significantly altered – for example, a size L is now categorized as a UK 16-18, and an XXL has shifted to a UK 24-26. This change impacts the resale value of clothing and potentially leads to returns and dissatisfied customers. Frankie Bridger, a plus-size fashion content creator, noted, “Not many brands say XL is a 20-22,” highlighting the disconnect between Vinted’s new categorization and industry standards. Users like Stephanie Gallen from Glasgow reported size 14 items appearing as size 20-22 on the platform, and Charlotte Lunn from Derby expressed anger at having to manually update “every single listing,” particularly as she relies on Vinted sales due to chronic illness. A Vinted spokesperson stated the company has updated size guidelines to improve accuracy across international brands and that UK members received a message in their inbox with further details, as well as information available in their help center.

Vinted says it is monitoring the situation and encourages users to check their listings and make necessary corrections, while continuing to assess the impact of the update.
