Jimmy Kimmel’s Wife Reveals Family Strain Due to Trump Criticism

Molly McNearney, wife of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, revealed yesterday that the couple has experienced fractured relationships with family members who continue to support Donald Trump, stemming from Kimmel’s ongoing criticism of the former president.

In a recent interview on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, McNearney shared the personal toll Trump’s attacks have taken on their family. “It hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have where my husband is out there fighting this man,” she said. While acknowledging understanding for initial support in 2016, McNearney stated that supporting Trump now feels like a rejection of her family. “To me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family. And I unfortunately have kind of lost relationships with people in my family because of it,” she confessed.

The tension escalated following a brief suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in September after Kimmel’s comments regarding the MAGA response to an incident involving conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a move quickly reversed due to a surge in Disney+ subscription cancellations. McNearney, head writer and executive producer for the show, emphasized that the conflict extends beyond partisan politics, touching on core values. “This is not just Republican versus Democrat for me anymore. It is to me family values, and it’s really hard for me because I grew up believing in these Christian ideals of taking care of the sick and taking care of the poor,” she explained. This division within families highlights a growing societal rift, particularly as the 2024 election cycle intensifies.

Kimmel himself has continued to publicly challenge Trump, recently joking on his show about surpassing the former president in popularity according to a YouGov poll. He quipped, “Considering the fact I’m not a convicted felon, friend of Jeffrey Epstein, I’ve never paid off a porn star, or sent a team of masked goons into a park to pull an old lady away from her grandchildren, I feel like my rating should be higher, maybe?” Representatives for Trump have not yet responded to requests for comment on the family’s statements, but the former president frequently uses his social media platform to criticize media figures he deems unfavorable, as reported by the NBC News.
