Portable Home Gym, xPlate, Launches on Kickstarter

A San Diego-based engineer has developed xPlate, a compact and portable weight training system designed to offer a full-body workout in a single, travel-ready case.

Invented by biomedical engineer Austin Acri, the xPlate features a central base with stackable stainless steel weight plates coated in a protective ceramic. The system comes in two models: the M, offering up to 33 pounds of resistance, and the L, which provides up to 65 pounds. A variety of attachments, including kettlebell handles, curl bars, and a pulley system, connect to the base to facilitate diverse exercises. Users can further increase resistance up to 300 pounds by combining elastic resistance bands with an immovable object.

The entire kit packs into a wheeled, foam-padded case for easy storage and transport, addressing the common challenge of limited space for home fitness equipment. An accompanying app provides over 150 guided exercises and structured workouts, offering users a comprehensive training experience. This innovation comes as demand for at-home fitness solutions continues to rise, fueled by convenience and accessibility.

Currently available through a Kickstarter campaign, pledges of $478 will secure an M or L xPlate setup, a discount from the planned retail price of $799. The company anticipates production will begin following a successful funding period, with delivery expected in the coming months. Officials stated they will continue to update backers on production timelines and shipping details as the Kickstarter campaign progresses.
